KW Consulting Fission Gas Release Model
KW Consulting has developed a new state-of-the-art LWR fuel rod fission gas release model. The model accounts for fission gas release due to diffusion to grain boundary bubbles and interlinkage of the bubbles, grain boundary sweeping, direct diffusion to the fuel rod void volume, and knockout/recoil release. The model calculates the release of both stable and unstable fission gases, and the fuel swelling due to the grain boundary bubbles.
The KW Consulting fission gas release model has been calibrated to the FRAPCON stable fission gas release data and to Halden gas flow rig data for the release of radioactive isotopes. Comparisons between the model calibration and the stable and unstable gas release database are shown in the model description.
